Harry Bertoia's Sound Piece (shown on the left), a beryllium copper sculpture from the art museum collection, has been on display numerous times since it was acquired from the artist in 1979. When the characteristic vertical rods are set in motion, their hypnotic swaying and carillon-like peals become a favorite of museum visitors.

For this exhibition, we invite the public to "see" and "hear" the Bertoia in a new and exciting way. What does sound look like? Using Sound Piece, we will explore and unlock the sensations of color and movement created when the chiming sounds are filtered through a digital visualizer and projected onto a large screen. Twenty-first century technology will transform the East Gallery into a theater of sensation that will dazzle and mesmerize visitors of all ages. It is sure to provide an experience that spurs the imagination – and a backdrop for engaging thought and dialogue.
