Art Now Here!

• 1931 - the Art Department at Michigan State University is established.
• Between 1944 and 1950 the enrollment in the Art Department soared 350%. The faculty expanded from seven in 1945 to 21 in 1955.
• In 1945 three Mexican retablos are donated to the Art Department, inaugurating the art collection at Michigan State University.
• In 1946 the Art Department on campus is housed in nine different buildings, eight of which were temporary. The gallery for student work and the permanent collection was in the Union.
